Public Transport with the Oslo Pass

Red T-bane metro train in Oslo

The Oslo Pass as a public transport ticket

The Oslo Pass lets you use all public transport for free across Oslo's transport zones. Included are bus, tram, metro (T-bane), local trains and ferries operated by the Ruter network in zones 1 to 4N and 4V. The ferry to the museum peninsula Bygdøy is included as well. That means you can reach all the city's attractions without buying a ticket each time.

Not included are the airport express train Flytoget and the City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off buses.

Validity

Your pass becomes active from the moment you first activate it in the app, not from the time of purchase, and then runs continuously for 24, 48 or 72 hours. You can activate it in the evening if that suits your plans. During that time you can travel as many times as you like.

How to use the pass on public transport

  1. Redeem your pass: after booking you receive a code by email. Download the official Oslo Pass app and redeem the code under "Redeem pass".
  2. Activate: only activate the pass when you are ready to start exploring. The countdown begins from that moment.
  3. Board: get on the bus, tram, metro, local train or ferry. No extra ticket is needed.
  4. During inspections: show your active pass in the app. Never travel without a valid pass, fines of up to 1500 NOK may apply.

Key routes

The main hub is Central Station (Oslo S / Jernbanetorget), served by all T-bane lines and many bus and tram routes. Nationaltheatret and Stortinget are also important interchange points in the centre.

  • Munch Museum: tram Line 13 or 19 to Bjørvika, a few minutes' walk from the museum.
  • National Museum & Nobel Peace Center: tram Line 12 or 13 to Aker Brygge, right at the harbour.
  • Holmenkollen: metro Line 1 to Holmenkollen station (about 25 minutes).
  • Bygdøy (museum peninsula): in summer by ferry from Rådhuskaia (City Hall pier), included in the pass; year round by bus Line 30 from the centre.
  • Vigeland Park: tram Line 12 to Vigelandsparken.

Practical tips

  • Ruter app: the official public transport app with timetables and routes is available for iOS and Android.
  • Operating hours: metro, tram and bus run roughly from 05:00 to 24:00. At weekends additional night buses operate (lines with an N prefix).
  • Bygdøy ferry: the ferry runs roughly from March to October. In the winter months use bus Line 30.
  • Avoid rush hours: on weekdays many lines are busy between 07:00 and 09:00 and again between 15:00 and 17:00.
