Public transportation

The Oslo Pass gives you free use of public transport in Oslo. Here you can find out which means of transport are covered and what else you should bear in mind.

The Oslo Pass as a ticket for public transport

The Oslo Pass (tourist card) gives you unlimited travel on all public transport in Oslo and the surrounding area. Included are all means of transportation: Metro (T-Bane), streetcars, city and regional buses, city ferries and local trains operated by Vy. This means you can easily reach all the sights without having to buy a ticket every time.

The area of validity includes zones 1-4 (Oslo and surrounding regions). Even the transfer to the airport Oslo-Gardermoen is included (with Vy-train). Not valid for the express train Flytoget or private long-distance buses.

The validity starts with the first activation and then runs 24, 48 or 72 hours continuously - so you can start the pass in the evening, for example. Important: You must activate the pass before your first journey.

The most important routes

Oslo has a well-developed transport network. The most important hub is the central station (Oslo S / Jernbanetorget) with all T-Bane lines as well as many bus and streetcar lines. Stations such as Nationaltheatret or Stortinget are also important transfer points in the city center.

Top connections to sights:

  • Gardermoen Airport: Take the Vy local train to the city center (approx. 23 minutes to Oslo Central Station) - this is included in the Oslo Pass. (The faster Flytoget express train is not included.)

  • Holmenkollen: Subway line 1 to Holmenkollen station (approx. 25 minutes).

  • Bygdøy (Museum Island): In summer by ferry from Rådhuskaia (City Hall pier). All year round, bus line 30 from the city center (stops include Fram-, Kon-Tiki and the Folk Museum).

  • Vigeland Park: Streetcar line 12 to stop Vigelandsparken (right by the park) or bus line 20.

  • Oslofjord Islands: Ferries from Aker Brygge to Hovedøya, Gressholmen and other islands (nice trips in summer).

Further practical tips:

  • Avoid rush hours: If possible, avoid 7-9am and 3-5pm on weekdays, as many lines are overcrowded then.

  • Operating hours: The subway, streetcar and bus run approximately from 5:00 to 24:00. At weekends there are additional night buses (with N line number).

  • Bygdøy ferry: Ferry to Museum Island only approx. March-October. Use bus line 30 during the winter months.

  • Tram 12 as a city tour: Streetcar 12 runs right across Oslo and past many sights - ideal for your own city tour.
